Leadership

Emani is lead by Zakari Y. Aliyu, M.D. MPH MSc FACP FCCP FICS, a physician with close to 30 years of vast clinical experience. He received fellowship training and certification from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NHLBI/NCI) and Bethesda Naval Medical Center (Now Walter Reed Army Medical) in Clinical Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Vascular Medicine: Diagnostics & Therapeutics. He underwent general internal medicine training and served as executive 4th-year Chief Resident at St. Agnes Hospital, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Weinberg Cancer Center and UMD Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Aliyu obtained his MD from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, also having obtained a Master’s degree in Political Science & International Relations. He is also an alumnus of The George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he completed his MPH. Additionally, he has amassed a copious amount of professional diplomas and certifications in various clinical and academic fields. Dr. Aliyu’s extensive clinical, research, academic, and administrative experience includes leadership roles at the NIH, being CEO of a major tertiary-care state hospital for 5 years in Nigeria, senior collaborative international research with ABU-NIH and the Cheboskary/Russian Federation, along with 6 years of heading medical missions to Saudi Arabia. He was also a Professor of Medicine, Hematology & Oncology, at Howard University/HUH in Washington, DC. 

Dr. Aliyu’s fascinating career also lead to amazing expertise in aesthetic medicine and laser microsurgery, having earned various certifications. In addition to being a fellow of the American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery/International Academy, he is certified by the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and the American Board of Aesthetic Medicine.

Dr. Aliyu is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine and the founder of Hajj Medicine International. He has been involved with Hajj/Pilgrimage and Hajj medicine for about 30 years. He has visited KSA for Umrah & Hajj, and other official engagements over 20 times. He served as Special Envoy of Governor D. D. Suntai in Taraba State, Nigeria, in the capacity of Head of the Special Medical Delegation, and Medical Team for 5 years ( 6 hajj seasons) between 2008-2013. Under his leadership, the Medical Mission received numerous accolades and commendations including the Commendation of Exemplary Service and Excellence in Pilgrims Healthcare, awarded by the National Amirul Hajj. In all these missions, he would be the first to acknowledge the wonderful dedication, sacrifice, and cooperation he enjoyed from the wonderful team of doctors and nurses, in addition to the important support of pilgrims, the target stakeholders and primary assignment. It was hard but well worth it. Dr. Aliyu has also volunteered his medical expertise in hajj missions from Maryland, USA; most recently in collaboration with Super Eagle Travel in 2018, providing free services and medications.
